It’s finally here! If you’ve been following my ramblings here or elsewhere, you may know that my friend Patrick and I have been working on a podcast recently. It’s called Nostalgia 91, and the idea is that Patrick, myself, and sometimes a guest, will talk about something at least one of us is nostalgic for, and one of us has never seen. We’ve recorded three episodes so far and each one has been a lot of fun. It’s great being able to remember and reminisce about something you loved when you were a child. It’s also really cool being introduced to something new that a friend is passionate about. This podcast is one of the most fun projects I’ve been a part of in a long time and I’m excited to be able to share it with you!
The original plan was to release a episode twice a month, but after going through the editing process we’ve decided we’re going to release Nostalgia 91 weekly! The link to the first episode is down below and I’ll be posting about it on my social media throughout the following weeks. I hope you enjoy hearing it as much as we did recording it! (Fair warning, Patrick and I do swear so there’s a fair bit of profanity in this.)
This post is a couple days late but here it is! A few weeks back my friends and I recorded ourselves playing a game called Once Upon a Time. If you listen to the first episode at the link below you’ll see a brief summary of the rules. I’m not sure if this will become a regular thing, but I’d love to record and share more storytelling based games online. Storytelling is my favourite thing to do these days so I love sharing these sorts of experiences! If you haven’t seen these already, I hope you enjoy them! Fair warning, there is some profanity.
My good friend Patrick and I recently recorded the first episode of an ongoing podcast series. This is an idea I’ve had in my head for a while that was originally going to be a video series. We’re calling it “Nostalgia 91” and it is going to be all about TV shows, music, video games, and media of all sorts that we’re nostalgic for. The idea is that, in each episode, we will discuss something one of us is nostalgic for but the other is not. We’re hoping it will be interesting to hear someone who’s very familiar discuss a favourite with someone who’s completely new to it. We hope to have guests on as well, so Patrick and I might be able to introduce something we both love to someone else. Or maybe a guest and I will show something to Patrick. However it winds up, at least one person is going to discover something new. We recorded the first episode, where I introduced Patrick to “The Secret of NIMH.” It’s one of my favourite animated films and recording our discussion of it was a lot of fun! For the time being, the plan is to host it on Soundcloud and possibly a YouTube channel. Everything will be posted here so you’ll be able to find it easily!
I’m very excited for this project for a few reasons. This year I am trying very hard to get over my procrastination problem, and this project is one of the things that is going to keep me accountable. Starting January 27th the podcast will be released every second Friday. Depending how on the ball we are with recordings we may try to make it a weekly thing! At the very least, this will keep me feeling productive. I still hope to make the documentaries I mentioned in my previous post (planning for two of them is on the go) but this podcast will keep me busy and feeling productive in between those films. The first episode was a lot of fun to record. This is honestly the first time in a while that I’ve felt really happy and excited about doing something creative. Even if this podcast doesn’t find much of an audience, at least it’s something I’ll be able to enjoy doing with some friends.
So, you can look forward to our “Secret of NIMH” episode on the 27th! Also, later today I’ll post about another “podcast” project I tried out. I’ve been posting it on Soundcloud but I forgot to share it here!
I’ve been struggling a bit to decide what my major film project for 2017 will be. My goal is to finish a film every year and this year, in an attempt to tackle my procrastination problem, I was hoping to start immediately on a larger project. At first I was going to make a very personal film about a late family member. After a bit of thought, however, I decided a different project might be a better idea. I’ve decided to start a youtube channel dedicated to short documentary films. I’ve wanted to try this for a while, just to see how many people I can reach with a site like YouTube. I don’t see many docs on YouTube, so I’m hoping at the very least I could fill a bit of a niche. This would also be an opportunity to hone my skills in each stage of production. If I finish several very short projects over the next year, I will have built a bit of a resume up while also getting better and the whole documentary process. Then, hopefully, I’ll be that much more ready to tackle a longer film like the one I mentioned earlier.
Doing this is definitely going to be a challenge. I’m trying to overcome my procrastination problem by powering through everything I have planned. Of course, as is an old habit of mine, I’ve planned a lot of stuff. I’m going do do a podcast with a friend, and also try planning a small film festival. There’s a chance that all of this will be a bit too much for me on top of my regular hobbies. If that’s the case, I’ll be willing to drop a project or two if I have to. For some reason I get down on myself when I push a hobby or project to the side. It almost feels like I dedicated myself to something and let myself down by not being able to stick to it. I’m going to keep reminding myself that’s not the case this year. You can’t have time for every little thing. I am hoping, though, that as I get better about time management and procrastination (and force myself to rewatch less TV shows, and spend less time on youtube) I should be able to handle what I have planned. So hopefully you all can look forward to a few short films, a bi-monthly podcast, and a goofy little film festival this year.
Quick note, I AM planning on posting on my blog every Friday starting next week! It won’t be fiction and prose like it used to. Instead, it’s going to be updates on creative projects and stuff like that. This blog is going to be the central hub for all my creative junk. You’ll be able to find links to all of it here! Thanks for dropping by!
